How to Enable Windows 10 Auto Login Feature in 2021

Starting from Windows 8, Microsoft Windows operating systems show a volume popup at top-left of the screen on Laptops/Desktops whenever we use the shortcut key to change the volume. Which typically looks like this:

Volume popup (Overlay) in Windows 10

Some people find it annoying to them to always see this popup every time they change the volume of their Laptop/Desktop PCs. So you may be one of them.

But unlike other features, there is no option with Windows 11/10/8 to disable or hide this volume popup. You only can only decrease the popup display time to 5 seconds minimum. (You will see how to do that also in method 01)

But we have a better solution! In this guide, you will learn how to Disable or hide the volume popup permanently or temporarily in Windows 11/10. Even if you are a Windows 8 user. You can do this just fine.

Keep scrolling..

01 – How to decrease the display time of volume popup

Note: This method won’t hide or disable volume popup in windows 11/10. If you want to disable the volume popup, scroll down to method 2 and below.

As I said earlier, Windows 11/10 operating system won’t offer a way to disable the volume popup. But we can reduce the volume popup display time. Up to 5 seconds.

This method is best if you don’t want to disable the volume popup entirely but want to get rid of that as soon as you change the volume.

Let’s see how you can do that:

  1. Go to settings and then Ease of access
Windows Settings - Ease of Access
  1. Under Display settings, Scroll down till you find settings under Simplify and Personalize Windows
Ease of Access - Display settings
  1. Under that settings, set the Show notification for to 5 seconds
Change the volume popup display time
  1. Now turn volume up/down to see whether the changes are applied

02 – Disable Volume popup using HideVolumeOSD

HideVolumeOSD is small 3rd party software developed by a GitHub user TheCakeIsNaOH just to disable the volume popup in Windows 11/10/8 operating systems.

Thanks to the developer, you can download this software for free and use it to get rid of the volume popup notification.

Here is how to disable the volume popup using HideVolumeOSD:

  1. Click here to download the HideVolumeOSD program
  2. Once downloaded double click on the setup icon
  3. You might see a warning message. Do not worry, the developer has already explained why it happens in the website as follows;

According to the developer:

“When executing the setup you will get a Windows SmartScreen warning. This is caused by the fact that I have no commercial certificate to sign the application/setup, because it’s for free.”

  1. Therefore, if you get a smart screen warning, click the More info and click on “Run anyway” to start the setup
  2. When you click the Next button in the setup, you will be asked to select an installation options “Silent mode” or “Tray icon mode
HideVolumeOSD Setup - Installation options

Tray Icon Mode: After installation, a tray icon will be visible on right side of the taskbar and from there you can disable/enable the volume popup.

Silent Mode: There will be no tray icon and the program will immediately disable the volume popup after the installation. If you want to enable the popup notification back, you can do that by clicking the start button and under HideVolumeOSD program group (I will show you that from below)

  1. Select the installation option as you preferred and complete the installation.

Now follow the steps below according to the installation option you chose in step 5.

If you chose Tray icon mode

Tray icon mode - How the icon will appear on taskbar

After install, you will see an icon on the right side of the taskbar (look the image above). To disable the volume popup, just right click on the icon and select Hide Volume OSD like this:

Disable the volume popup using tray icon

Now you will see that the icon changed after selection. To enable volume popup back, right click on the icon again and select Show volume OSD  like this:

Enable the volume popup back using tray icon

Note: In the latest version, you can just click the icon to enable/disable the Volume popup without having right click on it.

Pretty simple right?

If you chose Silent Mode

There will be no user interface or an icon like in tray icon mode to enable or disable the volume popup notification, but you can do that in the program folder.

  1. Go to start
  2. Look for a program group called HideVolumeOSD
  3. Click on it
HideVolumeOSD program group

Now you will see 3 programs listed there, like this:

HideVolumeOSD programs

Here is what each program does:

  • HideVolumeOSD – Starts the program and shows the taskbar icon (Like in system tray mode)
  • HideVolumeOSD (Hide) – Disable the Volume popup immediately
  • HideVolumeOSD (Show) – Enable the volume popup immediately

Silent mode initially disables the volume popup window. So no need to disable it manually. You can use these to enable it back whenever you want.

Will this program work even after I restart my PC?

Yes. This program will launch whenever you turn on/restart your PC.

03 – How to disable the volume popup when using Chrome

If you don’t mind having volume popup on Windows but want to get rid of the volume popup that appears while listening to music or watching a video on chrome like this?

Typical Volume popup (overlay) when using chrome

Then this option might be best for you other than disabling the entire volume popup Window.

Follow the steps below to disable volume popup in chrome:

  1. Open chrome
  2. Copy or type the following address in address bar
Google chrome - address bar
  1. Press the enter button
  2. Disable the Hardware Media Key Handling

These settings are being managed by vendor application

You went to turn on Windows firewall/Security but you get “these setting are being managed by vendor application…..” error message.

If this is the issue you are having right now, don’t worry. We have got you!

In this guide I will show you how to fix that annoying message “these settings are being managed by vendor application” in Windows 11/10 or 8.

Why do I get “These settings are being managed by vendor application” Message?

As I said at the beginning of this guide, We saw bunch of users on forums complaining that they get this message when they try to turn on Windows firewall or Windows security (known as defender before).

So we did some check in to see why this error coming up.

The main reason for this error is having another antivirus/firewall software installed on the same computer.

Since Windows firewall and Windows security software are preinstalled with Windows, the third party firewall/antivirus software turn them off to avoid software conflicts.

You can see which firewall/antivirus software cause the issue by seeing the message (see the image below).

Antivirus software causing the error message

How can I get rid of “These settings are being managed by vendor application” message?

To get rid of this message and enable Windows firewall and security again, you have to turn off or uninstall that third party firewall/antivirus software causing the issue.

It is up to you to decide whether you turn off or uninstall it. I will show you both ways.

Solution 01 – Disable/turn off any third-party antivirus software installed on your computer

Turning off antivirus software can be vary and relatively easy depend on the software you have installed on your computer.

Therefore, I have listed how to turn off most common antivirus software below. Find one that you have on your system and follow the steps to turn it off.

How to turn off MacAfee Antivirus

McAfee Antivirus logo
  1. Open MacAfee antivirus using the taskbar icon on the right side or using windows search (type MacAfee on search bar)
  2. Click the PC tile then firewall
  3. Turn off firewall

Now you will be able to turn on Windows firewall, but to enable Windows security or defender, you will have to turn off antivirus feature as well like did for the firewall before.

If you found it difficult to turn off MacAfee antivirus, follow this video or this official article for help.

How to turn off Norton Antivirus

Norton Antivirus logo

You can easily turn off Norton antivirus by simply right clicking on the icon on taskbar. Here is how to do that:

  1. In the notification area right click on the Norton antivirus icon
  2. Then click on disable firewall

  2. Select Turn protection off

Note: If your antivirus software is not listed here please refer to the product’s website (Or simply google).

Usually there is an icon on the right side of the taskbar. You will be able to turn off the antivirus/firewall from there.

Solution 02: Uninstall any third-party antivirus software installed on your computer

If turning off antivirus did not work or you want to get rid of third party antivirus, you can uninstall any antivirus software installed on your computer to get rid of “These settings are being managed by vendor application” message and turn Windows firewall/security back on.

It is easy to uninstall antivirus software, just follow these steps below:

  1. Go to settings and then Apps
Windows settings
  1. Scroll down and find the 3rd party antivirus software then click on it
  2. Uninstall button will be visible and then click on it
Uninstalling antivirus
  1. Complete the uninstallation, then restart your computer
  2. Go back and turn on Windows firewall/Security again.

Final thoughts: Do you need 3rd party antivirus/firewall software?

If you are using Windows 10 or 11 computer, both are comes with powerful antivirus/firewall software which is called Windows Security.

If you are not doing heavy internet browsing such as downloading torrents, cracked software, you will be fine with it.

But if you need extra protection and other features such as parent controls, advanced firewall security, then you can purchase a third-party antivirus software and use.

The important thing to know that is usually any third-party antivirus software use significant amount of memory (RAM) and CPU power.

What I recommend is that don’t install any third-party antivirus software if you don’t have at least 6GB of RAM installed on your PC.

  2. Type “Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Press the Enter button

The Last option – Clean installing Windows 11

If none of the mentioned methods worked, the best option is installing Windows 11 using the Windows 11 ISO file or from an installation media. This is also applicable even you want to just update windows 11 to the latest version. Because Microsoft update the ISO file/Installation media files whenever there is an update is released.

To do that, first make sure to backup all your files in C drive, if you want to format other drives, then take a backup of them as well.

Then you will need a flash drive to download all the necessary files and install windows 11 from it.

If you don’t know how to do that, then don’t worry, Follow the link here to a video where it shows how to do that.
